Review: Crepuscolo – Man dies, only genetics never die [Eg0_027]

Mongolian act Crepuscolo offers a short but appealing release on the excellent Eg0Cide Productions. A complaint I have heard amongst the industry’s old timers is that netreleases like this one “dilute” the musical world, by supplying listeners with quality material at no cost (rather than creating an expensive run of 500 or 1000 copies in a digipak). And it is interesting to me, as the clinical drone and glitch sounds of this release to my ears would be right at home on, say Cold Meat Industry or Malignant Records– except that you can get the music right away for absolutely no charge.

The music offered is, essentially, oscillating glitchy-drones, sometimes with a beat behind them. But this is all quite powerful and charged with feeling, and well-produced, besides. It’s not exactly an opus of complexity, but is a successful release, nontheless, nicely accomplishing its task.

What I ask for from something that is dark ambient / drone is that it takes me away from my ordinary surrounds, and this Crepuscolo does very well. I find myself wandering distant, foggy halls and chambers in some secret laboratory far from humanity. . . Why not see for yourself?
